The first attempts to honor fathers took place in 1907, when an American woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to acknowledge her father, who single-handedly raised her and her four siblings after the tragic loss of his wife. Ultimately, the inaugural Father's Day was celebrated on June 19^th, 1910, in Washington State, USA.
